Teeny Weeny, Yellow Polka Dot Bikini

Paul Vance is still very much alive, although many in Florida held belief, they'd lost the writer of this perrenial hit. Apparently an imposter with identical name and some music fame maintained false claims throughout his life. His wife, needless to say was shocked but there really was'nt much left to say anymore, except I bet she muttered under her breath "You think you know a guy.....". A ridiculous act in which this guy got his baby sister drunk, a mom that fed her expecting daughter, turpentine, a goose that did a fly-by along a bike rider (no, not the topgun ref.) and a school that spent whole lotta cash on a poodle which took on its duties as a calming influence. If Rip Van had been asleep for the lats 50 years and woken up coupla days ago, logged on to cnn.com to see these headlines on the front page....

Brother gets 3-year-old sister drunk, police say
Cop: Mom made pregnant girl drink turpentine
Goose exercises flying next to Harley biker
School spends $2,300 on poodle to calm kids
'Itsy Bitsy' writer victim of imposter

....he would have promptly gone into voluntary coma. We are the children of this century, quite used to this kind of nonsense. The oddities of this world don’t affect us anymore, we have learnt to ignore it. Interesting point here is that the world might have been this odd to begin with, we're more aware of it now due to better press coverage. But then maybe, that’s a wrong conclusion and this whole thing has to do with global warming affecting human engagement with each other, turning them crazy. I guess we all need a poodle some time or the other to calm us over.

I am the reason you're around….

Sometimes I think that the whole world, the people, animals, and everything I interact with are here for one reason, namely, me. Its like this whole universe is some sort of artifical environment and I'm the only true definable entity, possibly the subject of a rigorous test, maybe even a mantle piece display created for them. Yes, I call them, simply "them", for want of a better word, since it is a black box. I have no clue as to their form, shape, size, attitude or even whether they use tissue paper or water spouts, which is why I have been restricted to calling them anything that comes to mind. I could go on, on my choice of their naming, but its irrelevant because there is no "them". Its merely a figment of my imagination. On the other hand, all of you could be a figment of them's imagination, if they have one, since there's absolutely no reason to assume they do. This reminds me of an episode of StarTrek:TNG where "Rene Descartes" uses the power of "Cogito Ergo Sum" to get out of the holo-deck and thwarts Captain Jean Luc Picard into almost surrendering his ship. However, Jean Luc devises a plan and captures Rene's mind in a holo cube where he is happy with his love. All's well that ends well, I never did understand that episode completely, but the parallel is that Rene could be living inside a whole universe identical to the one outside the holo-cube and never know the difference. To go further on this point would intrude on solid material for a separate discussion and so is best left aside. Another good graphical description of the same idea is the last few minutes of MIB, I found it truly amazing, the concept was the same as I'd imagined but the graphical ideas were crazy lovely, especially the "them" playing marbles part. The question ultimately though, is, do I care? Do you care if you're part of this made-up world? If there's "them" watching the mantle piece, shaking things up once in a while. Do you care about all the money that goes into the big bang theory exploration and other projects like SETI when the reason simply is that "them's" neighbour's kids came over and tipped the mantle display? It’s a subjective question and personally, I would rather take the blue pill and taste the life I know, was born into (borrowing the last piece from the non-Sci-fi Matrix movie, I classify it under really good masala). So the conclusion being, I like you all the way you are, don’t feel the need to change anything, if you're artificial please stay that way, for changing it would be unnatural. Like I say in the header, beauty is always skin deep, once you ……...

Thermal Bootup

Sweating like crazy, I was drenched in my perspiration licking the salty water off my lips. This was hotter than I was used to on Earth, the pelunkan atmosphere was literally burning me up, roasting my tanned skin severely. Had to find it….what was the use of living, of going back, things would never be the same….it had to be here somewhere. Turning around I saw the huge black swarm headed my way just in time, I ducked quickly, falling low to the ground. A few of the black ninches hit me unable to control their flight and blood began too ooze from various places in my body, I was hardly concerned. If I did'nt find it, I would have nothing to concern myself with anymore. Got up and started digging with the spade I had specially made out of carbon alloy, the same used by Angelina for grappling hooks while scaling the mountains as Mrs.Smith. The alloy had been found to be useful against thick dirt and a very effective combatant to mamphilarian limestone which made up most of the pelunkan crust. Thunk…thunk…I could'nt dig anymore. There was something solid wedged in the mamphiles. Using my bare hands to dislodge it, I heaved to and fro using all my body mass as the stubborn piece came grinding loose in my hand. Could it be this….I remembered the ancient Scandinavian saying "having no idea how it looks like makes finding so much tougher" and as my mind wandered searching its depths for the person who'd said it to me, my sweat dripped onto the piece and froze. I was ecstatic….my mind was getting crushed deciding how to celebrate this discovery, triumphs of joy echoed in my head as I used the special liquid form my knapsack to clean off the mamphile dust that had accumulated on it over the years. It had been so long, the elders had secured the piece very well indeed. For the last 5 years we, the people of earth had sent countless explorers on the search for the Remote Control to the Sun, earth had been steadily grinding to a halt its natural resources and habitat reduced to meagre portions. It had been predicted that in another 2 days the earth would have stopped spinning and cooled down to solid ice…unless the remote control to the sun were found and the sun turned on again. No one had been prepared for this…that the natural sun would die out had always been a distinct possibility, it was the reason the artificial sun project had been formed, but no one had anticipated meteor lungeller to hit the sun and wipe it out in a single blow. The map to the remote had been lost over the generations and so few had even known of its existense. Enough rumination over the distant past…all that would change, water would flow again and the plants would grow, birds would roam the earth and humans would be able to come out of hiding and resume lives without fear of the end of the world. Putting on my Rayban's, I hit the concealed button on the piece…and lay down as the warmth flooded me, for the first time in five years.

Can I

Can I touch the painted wall
Or be a spider and do a crawl

Spread my wings like a buzzard
Swish a wand like a wizard

Can I become a cloud when I choose to
Or have the power in me to do

Any of the things I like
Like be a poet and not rhyme

I have not looked at a poem since I was in school. In fact, sometimes I even think they are retarded. However, there comes a moment or two when I suddenly grasp the beauty of these compact writings, appreciate the thoughts and capture the flavour the poet is trying to convey. That of course invariably lasts less than five minutes and I'm promptly shipped of to a land where Will Smith attends Bel-Air Academy and Vin Diesel is air-boarding off a high bridge. But yeah, on one of these "against the spirit of SternM's personality" moments, I actually decided to write one, yes, a poem. I will probably remove the moss on it, sanctify it and feed it as a post next time. For this one though, I simply want to remember some of the poems which I did appreciate.

The Charge of The Light Brigade by Lord Alfred Tennyson - Plight of the light cavalry when they charged against Russian forces. France, Turkey and Britain were allied in the Battle of Baclava fought in mid 1850's for control over Dardanelles which is a thin strait along Turkey's border, also sometimes signifying the Europe-Asia border.
One line interpretation: The soldiers knew it would be like walking into the jaws of death and yet they followed orders, of all kinds of helplessnes, this is worst.

Palanquin Bearers by Sarojini Naidu - Written in early 1900, this is a petite one about their heavy burden. Her famous joke was "It costs a lot to keep Gandhi poor". She was a poet, freedom fighter and Governor of Uttar Pradhesh in independent India
One line interpretation: The burden was hardly felt as they sang about the pearl they carried, the power of mind in not being intimidated by hardship.

The Brook by Lord Alfred Tennyson - This "men may come and men may go" piece needs no introduction
One line interpretation: The brook goes about performing its duties and moving on.

Leisure by William Henry Davies - Leisure appeals to me, because that’s exactly what I love to do, laze
One line interpretation: Stop, look around and lie down on the grass whether or not you have the time.
